An allocation financing the Millwald Theatre Inc. The facility operates as a theatre, cultural arts, and education center. The Millwald will support education for nearly 700 rural students (with that number growing each year), representing over 2,100 total student visits. It is anticipated 51% will be low-income students, and approximately 6% will be minority (based on student population statistics). The facility is expected to directly employ 7 full time equivalent (FTE) positions to support the daily operations of the facility and an additional 6 to 7 FTE equivalent employees for special events and performances.
“Our historic theater restoration will have a tremendous positive impact on our community. This is just not just a place to see performances but can provide a break in stresses we all have been dealing with theses last couple years. This offers a gathering place for enjoyment, bonding education and brings play, humor, and laughter to learning,” Wytheville Mayor Beth Taylor said.
