Project Description

This transaction will provide additional benefit to a multi-tenant health care and wellness facility serving low-income, uninsured, and under-insured people living with HIV/AIDS in Birmingham, AL. The 80,000 s.f. facility was specifically designed for patient use and provides its tenants with desperately needed space to expand operations and serve more patients at the highest standard of care available. The project is located in a severely distressed census tract, medically underserved area and opportunity zone. The tenants are: 1) 1917 Clinic, the largest HIV health care unit in Alabama and Federally Qualified Health Center, which is operated by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and 2) Magic City Wellness Center (“MCWC”), a non-profit providing outreach and counseling services to the LGBTQ community in a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment. The 1917 Clinic tripled its size to 60,000 sq. ft. allowing them to serve twice as many patients and provide more space for its research units, patient health services, dental clinic, pharmacy and health and wellness activities. MCWC will occupy the remaining 20,000 sq. ft.
