Project Description

A multi-agency effort, which includes the City of Pittsburgh, Port Authority of Allegheny County and East Liberty Development Corporation, to assemble and redevelop six acres of blighted or obsolete commercial and publicly-owned property located along the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, and construct a state-of-the-art multimodal transit center in the East Liberty neighborhood. The East Side III project builds a series of interconnected infrastructure elements that allows for the development of 360 multi-family housing units and 43,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial space. The project also included: converting one-way streets to two-way traffic, new construction of a modern two-level bus station, new bike/walking infrastructure, new street signs, better lighting, and increased pedestrian accessibility.
