COMMUNITY IMPACT

A full-service grocery store catering to Hartford’s North End and downtown is in the works. The city and the Hartford Community Loan Fund are planning a $23 million “Healthy Hartford Hub” that includes the store, a teaching kitchen, clinic, pharmacy and wellness studio. The project could be built near the historic Keney Memorial Clock Tower at the corner of Main and Ely streets, or on land a block south in part of another development known as Downtown North. The area has long been deemed a “food desert,” an urban space where residents have difficulty buying affordable or quality fresh food.
