Project Description

Construction of a community center to provide supportive services to immigrants and low-income people of color. The services include a wide range of medical, legal, social, educational and training offerings. The Make the Road New York Queens Community Center is a new approximately 24,000 sq. ft. community center in a severely distressed census tract in Corona, New York. MRNY seeks to consolidate its operations into this new community facility to significantly decrease operating expenses tied to rents and free up funds to increase services provided to the local low-income minority community in NYC. The community center includes classrooms, a library, community meeting rooms, a childcare space, a commercial kitchen and food pantry, and office space for MRNY staff. The building is developed to LEED Silver criteria. This new center allows MRNY to increase services to LIC include legal services, education, training, and college access services, training in leadership development and civic engagement, and other services.
