Project Description

In December 2021, AMCREF Community Capital, Munistrategies, the National New Markets Fund, Southern Community Capital, and Truist provided NMTC financing to Southern Champion Tray, LP (SCT). SCT is a 94-year-old sustainable paperboard packaging converter specializing primarily in food packaging for the grocery, bakery, and restaurant industries.

Paperboard packaging reduces waste in landfills and toxic materials used in the manufacturing process by being both recyclable and compostable. Paperboard products can be recycled 5-7 times before the grain becomes too small to be reused as paperboard and it can biodegrade within a few months compared to decades for plastic or Styrofoam based products.

SCT purchased a 56-acre greenfield site within the Centre South Riverport Industrial Park in September 2021 and invested $63.1 MM to construct and equip an approximately 300,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility.
