Project Description

Investment will support Southside Community Land Trust (“SCLT”) in renovating a 12,000-sf building for new Farm-to-Market Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Construction is already underway.

SCLT has operated its community-based programs focused on urban farming for 40 years, and primarily serves low-income, people of color with many coming from immigrant and refugee communities. SCLT have outgrown their current space and need upgraded facilities to support their organization.

In addition to serving as the new headquarters to run its programs and offer code compliant space for food aggregation, processing and storage, the space will include about 3,000 sq. ft. of commercial space for four commercial tenants – restaurant/café, caterer, juicer, and African-centric small grocer, all of which will be owned and operated by people of color. Tenants will sell or utilize foods grown on SCLT’s 38 acres in and around Providence.
