Project Description

MHIC Coffin Lofts and Lawtons Corner Projects MA: Coffin Lofts, along with its companion project, Lawton’s Corner, was among the first projects MHIC financed using New Markets Tax Credits and among the first NMTC projects in the country to get under way. In downtown New Bedford, six distressed historic buildings (Coffin Lofts and Lawton’s Corner) were transformed into retail/office and commercial space and mixed-income housing. The sponsors teamed up to transform this neighborhood, but would not have been able to complete The project without New Markets Tax Credit financing.

Other Massachusetts Projects

NMTC financing totalling $7.24 million supported the ground up construction of a 23,000 sq. ft. cooperative grocery store known as River Valley Co-op in Easthampton, MA, a USDA designated Food
Financing for Cafe UTEC, a youth education and workforce training program located in Lowell, MA.
Critical NMTC financing allowed the company to purchase and rehabilitate a 28,000 sq. ft. building, tripling its industrial space, and enabling Custom Blends to stay in Brockton and grow.
The project is a joint venture between Horizons for Homeless Children and WaterMark Development.
