Project Description

The Mill Redevelopment, located in rural Starkville, Mississippi (population 23,888), is the adaptive reuse of a historic, 111-year old shuttered cotton mill and new construction on a site that has been virtually inactive since 1962. The mixed-use redevelopment has strong support from Mississippi State University and will include a conference center and offices, and the new construction, adjacent to the mill facility, will incorporate a hotel and restaurant.- Mixed-use – Nonprofit office space, retail and restaurants. SCC’s investment of $10 million helped to complete financing of a transaction that includes the renovation and expansion of a two-story 97,579 sq. ft. historic cotton mill along with the new construction of a complementary mixed-use development in the City of Starkville, MS, located across the street from the main campus of Mississippi State University.

The project will include complete renovation of the historic Cooley Building to create a 22,000 sq. ft. conference center and approximately 50,000 sq. ft. of office space on the first and second floors of the east side of the building. The office space was occupied by the not-for-profit Stennis Institute of Government and MSU affiliate The National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center. The non-historic portion of the project includes the new construction of an adjacent four-story, 110-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel to be used by conference attendees, along with 800 surface and garage parking spaces.
