Project Description

Fab-Tek of Central Mississippi, Inc., is a locally owned, light manufacturing business specializing in fabricating metal, polymers and plastics. The company produces and retools light manufacturing equipment and components for companies that require customized manufacturing equipment, such as conveyor-based food processors. The company is contracted by its customers, who primarily operate in the poultry and prepared food markets, to update, maintain and build production line conveyor systems.

Fab-Tek is a key employer in the non-metropolitan community of Hazlehurst, Mississippi. The community of 3,800 residents has faced high unemployment of 20%, and a high poverty rate of 27%.

Over recent years, Fab-Tek’s business has experienced exponential customer demand and growth, and the company has continuously adapted to meet customer needs. Along with this growth, Fab-Tek has been able to maintain quality employment in the community.

Southern Community Capital’s New Market Tax Credit investment supports the small business’ growth with working capital financing, and new equipment and inventory purchases. The project retained 45 jobs with comprehensive benefits and access to on-the-job training and career advancement opportunities (95% accessible to individuals with a high school diploma or less).
