Project Description

NMTC funding was used to construct a 45,000 sq. ft. hospital annex and a 34,000 sq. ft. medical clinic that will provide primary care medical services and specialty care services to a rural location on and surrounding the San Carlos Apache Tribal Reservation.

The hospital projects it will be able to retain 64 permanent jobs, create 30 permanent jobs, create 84 construction jobs, serve 3,500 unduplicated clients annually, 90% of whom identify as Native American and increase patient visits from 22,686 to 23,593. Studies have shown that disease patterns among American Indians are strongly associated with adverse consequences from poverty, limited access to health services and cultural dislocation. High rates of unemployment, discrimination and cultural differences all contribute to unhealthy lifestyles and disparities in access to health care for many Indian people.
