In December 2021, AMCREF Community Capital provided $9.9 million of NMTC financing to Schawk USA, Inc. a subsidiary of Saueressig Group (Saueressig). Saueressig is a leading global designer and supplier of industrial rolling equipment and rotary tools in Germany. Saueressig is known for advancing existing technologies in manufacturing and recently developed new technology for high-tech, specialized manufacturing equipment for lithium-ion battery electrodes.

In February 2021, Saueressig entered into a lease for a vacant 22,700 sq. ft. industrial building near San Antonio’s east side. Saueressig plans to invest $10.5 million, including exercising a lease purchase option of $3.6 million, for building improvements and equipment. The project will support Saueressig’s expansion into providing its innovative technology to manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries, in particular for the growing electronic vehicle (EV) market. The Project’s initial customer will be the new Tesla Gigafactory in Austin, TX. The project will provide installation, refurbishing and maintenance services for Saueressig’s electrode calendaring (roller) manufacturing equipment. Saueressig’s proprietary equipment implements a “dry coating” process to manufacture lithium-ion batteries to improve battery life, decrease production costs, and eliminate toxic solvents used in the traditional production process.
