Share Food Program is a leading force in the fight against hunger across the Greater Philadelphia region, and one of the most impactful hunger relief organizations in the country. Nearly 30% of children in Philadelphia were food insecure in 2021, and 63% of seniors visiting food banks report choosing between food and medical care. Over 23% of Philadelphians — more than 350,000 — live in poverty, and food insecurity is rising in many neighborhoods across the region. Over the course of the pandemic, Share has driven a nearly five-fold increase in our staff, fleet of vehicles, and cold storage capacity, and enhanced programs and reach across Montgomery and Delaware Counties. Yet with all of this growth and improvement, our built environment has lagged behind. Our priority now is to expand and transform the warehouse headquarters at the heart of Share’s operations, and the warehouses at our Delaware and Montgomery County sites. This will enable us to make more gains against food insecurity and improve the health and wellness of our community and environment.
