Voices from the Community

The NMTC has been instrumental in the revitalization of our blighted downtown area. Having this resource has allowed us to breathe fresh air into once vacant and dilapidated historical buildings; in turn, creating movement and jobs in an area of the city that had become a liability.

-Krystle Villarreal Muller, City of Port Arthur Type 4A Economic Development Corporation, Port Arthur, Texas

Project Description

Downtown Port Arthur, once known for its vibrant business, had been in decline in recent years due to reduced traffic and population loss. The restoration of the historic Port Arthur Savings Building will launch a revitalization effort to serve the community and increase the presence of downtown businesses. NMTCs is utilized to redesign the 19,500 sq. ft. three story building as a modern office space. The improved building houses the city’s Chamber of Commerce, the Port Arthur Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Port Arthur Economic Development Corporation (PAEDC). PAEDC, a nonprofit, focuses on increasing Port Arthur’s business activity and foot traffic by renovating other abandoned downtown buildings.
