Project Description

This project involves construction of a 28,000 sq. ft. community/recreational center in the Mission Park neighborhood of Boston. This area is very densely developed, with many high-rise apartment buildings and busy streets, but few areas where children can play and participate in organized activities. The project sponsor operates a thriving, self-governing community of 2,000 residents who occupy affordable housing in five contiguous apartment complexes, and a range of programs for residents, but has little space for youth and afterschool programs. Using MHIC’s New Markets Tax Credit financing, RTH built a new facility housing a gym, wellness facilities, a teaching kitchen, classrooms and other spaces for educational and social service programs and related office space.
