Project Description

The Family YMCA of Marion and Polk Counties (the “YMCA”) has provided programs and services to the community since 1892. In preparation for its next 100 years, the YMCA is building a new community center in Salem, Oregon. The new 51,000-square-foot community center will be constructed on the YMCA’s original footprint in downtown Salem. The three-story Project will include the following features:

  • Childcare and Youth Development Rooms – Dedicated childcare and youth development rooms. These protected areas will provide childcare and summer day camp programs to school-age childcare, as well as youth activities throughout the year.
  • Community Spaces – Community meeting rooms and lounges for YMCA programs and groups seeking meeting space. Large and small meeting rooms will contain modern technology to support a wide variety of activities and events. The building’s first and second floor lounges will offer space for informal conversation and connection.
  • Regulation-size gymnasium – The gymnasium will house sports and activities for all ages.
  • Expanded Fitness Facilities – Three spacious multipurpose training rooms with all-new
  • equipment, wheelchair access, and natural light. Group training will include dance, martial arts, aerobics, barre, cycling, and more.
  • Swim Center – Continuing the YMCA’s long tradition of teaching and coaching swimming, the new facility will have a regulation-size lap pool and an accessible warm water therapy pool.
  • Additional Locker Rooms – The new facility will feature separate family and adult locker rooms. Family-style locker rooms will be on the first floor connected to the pool. Adult locker, rooms including saunas, showers, and changing areas, will be on the second floor.
  • Rooftop Terrace and Track – The facility will feature a rooftop terrace, community room, and running track for community events and outdoor wellness classes. The track will allow runners a safe outside cardio area with spectacular views of downtown and the state capitol.
  • Café – A café on the first floor will be a perfect place to relax before or after a workout and will offer our community a place to gather and connect.
