NMTC financing supported a new 90,000 sq. ft. facility located in a severely distressed, non-metro, low-income community. This project transformed a functionally obsolete and mostly vacant downtown mall and adjacent parcels into a vibrant, accessible facility convenient to several nearby low-income communities. The new center:
- Teaches positive character values to youth and teens. Nurtures the potential of kids, promotes healthy living and foster social responsibility.
- Provides high quality programs and services for health seekers and their families, addressing chronic disease caused by lifestyle choices.
- Provides a safe, caring environment to build community within an often isolated population.
- Houses a Healthy Living Incubator for health innovation and a platform in which to reach more individuals (inside and outside of our organization) through new community based health interventions and outreach.
- Meets the growing physical and social needs of our community. Shares community resources without duplication of services.
- Addresses a major quality of life indicator for attracting young adults and families to our community.
