Project Description

Field Memorial Hospital, a small rural hospital located in Southwest Mississippi, was in dire need of repair and updating to serve the residents of Amite and Wilkinson Counties. Through partnerships with banks from inside and outside of the region, HOPE was able to use the New Markets Tax Credit Program to finance the construction of a new facility in a community where 4 out of 10 families live in poverty.

Construction of the new facility created 150 jobs and, when finished, the hospital provided employment for 130 local residents. SCC made a $7.5 million investment to complete financing for a $22 million expansion project for rural Field Memorial Community Hospital, whose 62,000 sq. ft. facility increased the availability of high quality healthcare. The hospital is one of the region’s top five employers but was struggling to break-even in an inefficient and antiquated facility. The NMTC financing enabled Field Memorial to build a new, state-of-the-art hospital that is self-sufficient, creating and preserving 287 permanent jobs and 151 construction jobs.
