Project Description

Situated in a rapidly transitioning area of Tulsa Oklahoma, the Thornton Family YMCA has doubled its size to 92,000 sq. ft. with a project made possible by New Markets Tax Credits.. The YMCA of Greater Tulsa is partnering with the OU College of Community Medicine to transform this aging Y in south Tulsa into a new YMCA Healthy Living Center. The new Y facility includes a demonstration kitchen, and plans to participate in the national Cooking Matters program, aimed at educating and empowering low-income families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to prepare healthy affordable meals. NMR provided $8 million in New Markets Tax Credit financing and an additional $5 million in New Markets Tax Credits was provided by REI Development Corp. to cover the funding gap for the $21 million project.
