Project Description

The $191.6 million facility will produce approximately 250 million board feet of pine lumber annually|taking advantage of the company’s nearby timberland and other facilities. The new mill created 125 permanent full-time jobs in a census tract with an unemployment rate of 21.8% and poverty rate of 20.5%. Workers earn over 267% of the average living wage of Clarke County|with the facility location strategically amidst the most economically distressed counties in Alabama (Clark & Wilcox). 104 of the 125 jobs are accessible to low-income persons and offer employer paid work force development opportunities through Alabama Career Center and Coastal Alabama Community College. Westervelt offers all of its employees a full suite of benefits including 80% employer paid health and dental insurance.
