Rehabilitation of a blighted 46,000 sq. ft. industrial factory into a community center with space for contemporary art galleries, office space for nonprofit organizations, a commercial kitchen, affordable artist studios, retail storefronts, an amphitheater, and more.Indy CDE helped finance Big Car Collaborative’s campus expansion, known as the Big Tube, through a $7.5 NMTC loan to rehabilitate a blighted 46,000 sq. ft. industrial factory into a community center with space for contemporary art galleries, office space for nonprofit organizations, a commercial kitchen, affordable artist studios, retail storefronts, an amphitheater, and more.Through the redevelopment of the former brownfield site, Big Car will support the entrepreneurial efforts of artists, performers, non-profit organizations, local small businesses and startups.The campus expansion will also allow Big Car to provide resources and opportunities for community residents in 3D Printing, studio arts, and retail entrepreneurship, as well as a workforce The workforce The Big Tube building is expected to open in 2025.Since its inception in 2004 as an all-volunteer organization, Big Car has made significant investments into the community through art and placemaking.In addition to making art accessible to communities, the wider Big Car campus also includes eighteen affordable homes for artists.
