Project Description

The project renovates the historic and long-vacant Berks Trust building as well as the adjacent office building. The combined space houses a 22-unit incubator space for food entrepreneurs, office space for mission-aligned organizations including a large multi-services nonprofit serving Reading’s low-income Latinx population and the first credit union to enter the Reading market in a generation, as well as 39 units of affordable housing. The building will also offer a permanent home to the Reading Farmer’s Market, which has been offered only in spring/summer months due to the lack of an appropriate indoor space. The market serves a disproportionately low-income and elderly population with fresh, locally grown produce, meats, and prepared foods, which would now be available year-round.
